Mountain Climer

Mountain Climer is the solo project of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Climer.  Jeremy grew up in Columbus, Indiana, with stops in Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Chicago, Louisville, Los Angeles (again) along the way before settling in Broomfield, Colorado.  He grew up on his family’s old country music and classic rock radio before finding punk rock in the early 90s.  Growing up along Indiana 11, just north of John Mellencamp’s childhood home, he didn’t have access to cable in his home to regularly watch MTV.  After finding the Sex Pistols in Karma Records around 1993, he dived deep into punk rock.  He is still heavily influenced by The Descendents, and Sex Pistols, as well as Tom Petty, Oasis, Stereophonics, Ryan Adams, The Smiths, Nick Cave, the Jesus and Mary Chain, the Gaslight Anthem and Lucero.

Jeremy started playing guitar in 1991 and as soon as he learned a power chord he started writing songs.  In 1994 he started The Disgruntled Postal Workers with his classmates Charlie Sizemore and Rex Sharpe (playing bass).  He went on to play in multiple bands over the years, including: Dodge Ball (1997), Split the Difference (L.A. 2002-2004 / Chicago 2004-2005), The Devil’s Handshake (2010), Vice Tricks (2011-2012) and Kittenhead (2013-2014).  He also played guitar for solo artists Silouan Green (2001-2003) and Clark Paterson (2007-2009).  These gigs afforded him the opportunity to play shows at venues great and small, including The Basement in Nashville, The Empty Bottle in Chicago and 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, a few of the places he always dreamed of playing.  It also allowed him to record at Hidden Music (Dayton, OH), Track Record Studios (North Hollywood, CA), Sneak Attack Studios (Lexington, KY), Kitten Robot Studios (Los Angeles, CA) and The Blasting Room (Ft. Collins, CO).  Again, this allowed him to work with two of his musical heroes in Paul Roessler and Bill Stevenson.

In 2022, he released his solo debut, I’m Not Enough & That’s Okay, which he says was, “Unfinished business.  The pop punk record I always wanted to make.”  It was also a learning experience as he was learning to record himself at his own studio.  After some hard truths from Bill Stevenson in the mixing process, he took some time and enrolled in a recording program to better his studio skills.  This is where he met Travis Dolan from Level 32 Studio in Denver.

With his “unfinished business” now finished, Jeremy decided to move on to the influences of his adulthood and began writing music with the studio as another tool, or instrument, to use in the creative process.  No longer content with picking up a guitar and strumming while writing words, he now typically writes words and music completely separately.  There is no one way now, but he does love to sit at the piano and play, or build a drum groove and pick up the bass and jam along.  The guitar still is, and always will be, prominent, but stylistically, he lets the song determine what it needs without feeling compelled to fit into any genre specific mold.

In 2023 he released two EPs and a single, Let the Blood Flow, Lead a Horse to Water and “A Pretty Good Picture”, respectively. Both EPs were mixed and mastered by Travis Dolan at Level 32 and they will continue to work together on several planned EPs in 2024. These projects see Jeremy’s music move towards post-punk, American and alternative pop while still maintaining the punk rock edge that attracted him to the Sex Pistols in the first place so many years ago.
